231 Kitty Bryan -- Knitting Entrelac
Experience:  Be able to cast on, cast off, knit, purl, pick up, increase, and decrease stitches.
Workshop Description:  Learn to knit an entrelac cowl.  Entrelac comes from the French, entrelacer, meaning to interlace.  Taught in a workbook format, students will learn to create additive fabric by knitting triangles or rectangles onto an existing fabric edge.  Because there is not a consistent set of directions for knitting entrelac in literature; students, as a group, will explore five styles.  Students will then swatch entrelac in the round in preparation for knitting a Cathedral Woods cowl.  The Cathedral Woods pattern is written in a step by step approach for beginning entrelac knitters.
Participants should bring:  For swatch:  Wound-fingering weight yarn in two colors: 1 oz (28 g)/128 yds (117 m) each.  US 5 (3.5 mm) circular needle, 24” (61 cm) cord.
For the cowl:  Wound-fingering weight yarn in two colors:  variegated 6.2 oz (175 g)/600 yds (550 m) and solid 1 oz (28 g)/128 yds (117 m).  US 5 (3.5 mm) circular needle, 32” (81 cm) cord
Homework:  None
Material Fee:  $10 Knitting Entrelac Workbook and Cathedral Woods Pattern
