#104 Shepherds Rug-Braided Rug from Roving by Letty Klein, Wed & Thurs 9 am to 4 pm
Workshop Description: This 2-day workshop is for the person who wants to jump right in and make a terrific looking braided rug out of roving. Using easy techniques and minimal equipment, students will learn how to braid roving, felt the braids, and sew the braids into a beautiful, functional, long lasting rug. DAY-ONE will be spent selecting and preparing the roving, discussing color and design options, while braiding enough for a small rug. The instructor will felt the braids that evening at a laundry-mat and bring them back to class the next day. DAY-TWO will be spent learning the easy sewing techniques necessary to complete the project, along with tips and techniques for professional results.
Participants should bring: Students can bring their own roving if they want, about 3-4 pounds of roving is needed for a 2x3 foot rug, in 3 or more colors or shades. This is a good way to use up that roving you don’t know what to do with. (You can always supplement with roving purchased from the instructor.) While long/coarse fibers are preferred, any type of wool will work, as long as it is not short stapled. Alpaca, Llama and Mohair blends will work too if blended with about 20% wool.
Material Fee: $25 Everything needed to complete the rug, EXCEPT for the wool roving. The instructor will have an assortment of natural colored and dyed roving available for purchase at a reasonable price and of course copies of The Shepherds Rug.
Class Limit: 12
