#220 Knitting Essentials- Understanding Increase & Decrease by Kitty Bryan, Thursday 9 am to noon
Experience: Be able to cast on, cast off, knit, purl, garter stitch, stockinet stitch
Workshop Description: Why does a pattern use a specific increase/decrease? Is there a better choice? Will this stitch work for my fiber? Informed choice of stitches is fundamental to creating a well-knit garment.
This class is designed to move a new knitter from “completing a stitch” to “understanding how a stitch will look and perform”. This is a workbook-based class exploring increases and decreases, organized by appearance and function. Swatches will be knit for comparison. Through a hands-on experience, the student will be introduced to pattern construction theory and gain confidence in stitch substitution.
Participants should bring: Pencil. Scissors. Stitch markers. Wound sport or dk weight, light color wool. Darning needle. Blank 3x5 cards. Circular, US size 6 or 7 (4.0 mm or 4.5 mm) needle.
