Experience: Be able to cast on, cast off, two-color knitting, pick up stitches.
Workshop Description: Steek (n): 1. A knitting technique. 2. A planned opening in a knit item created by cutting the knitting. 3. An action that brings terror to the minds of many knitters.
Learn to steek fearlessly. Taught in a workbook format, students will create a coffee cozy for a 16-ounce cup. A step-by-step process to steek a prototype, steek the cozy, and finish raw edges is presented. Patterns for the prototype and the cozy are provided for homework.
Participants should bring: Pencil, sharp embroidery scissors, darning needle, cotton embroidery floss, 16-ounce cup, and 4 buttons.
Homework: Knit a two-color prototype and cozy; or, bring a washed thrift store fingering or dk weight wool sweater for cutting in lieu of homework.
