#402 Twist & Grist: Worsted Spinning by Patsy Zawistoski, Saturday 9 am to 4 pm
Experience: Can spin and ply, ready to take charge of your yarn
Workshop Description: Twist and grist are two very important concepts when you want to be able to direct your spinning for different purposes. I teach simple tactile and visual ways to understand twist and grist. Most spinners use a short, fingered draw, like worsted, for their default spinning. Working with combed top I’ll teach you tricks to improve this drafting style. We will also learn to comb clean fleece with hand combs then apply our drafting skills to fresh fleece. Now that you can spin and ply, it’s time to understand your drafting style plus twist and grist.
Participants should bring: A good working wheel, hand combs, and/or a cat/dog brush, note cards, scissors, hole punch for attaching sample yarns and fibers, some small bags, and a hand towel. Also bring oil, screwdriver and other tools for your spinning wheel. Optional mini niddy-noddy.
Material Fee: $30 Booklet, worksheets, grist cards, scoured fleece, combed top, counting sticks
Class limit: 12
