#430 Knitting Plaid by Kitty Bryan, Saturday 1pm to 4pm
Experience: Be able to do knitted cast on, garter stitch, cast off
Workshop Description: Do you love plaid, but believe it’s a woven fabric? Learn to make your own tartan without a loom. This class has three components. There is a brief discussion of Scot tartan history followed by an introduction to clan setts (weaving patterns). Students learn to read a sett and convert it into a knitting pattern. More than 132 traditional setts will be available to explore a tartan of interest. Once students understand knitted tartan construction, the class will learn to knit a Clan MacLeod inspired cowl. The cowl pattern is provided with the workbook.
Participants should bring: Pencil, sharp scissors, US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needle, tapestry needle, wound skeins of DK yarn in three different solid colors, 15 yards (14 m)/0.2 oz (5 g) each. Black and navy are not recommended due to lighting conditions. Optional: Tartan of interest.
Material Fee: $10 Knitting Plaid Workbook and Clan MacLeod Inspired Pattern
Class Limit: 10
