Coiled rye straw baskets, wrapped with narrow oak splints, are traditional to the German settlers of southeastern Pennsylvania.  This is also the type of basketry that was used to make the bee-skep (hive) we associate with old times.  In this workshop participants will prepare the straw for weaving and learn how to do the coil structure that is the basis for any basket.  Participants may choose to make a basket of any shape: round, oval, squared, etc.
