#331 Mary Germain —A Distorted View of Cuffs Half day Friday pm $50
Skill level: Intermediate experience level is recommended for this class. Students must have experience on double point needles (dpn) or working with circular needles on sock/mitten-sized knitting Workshop Description: Twisted skewed, angled deformed or warped. Try something out of the ordinary on your next mitten, sock, or sweater. Three unique cuffs will have you spinning: the slip Stitch Garter Cuff is worked in one color per round but looks like 2-color work with texture; the Diagonal Squares Cuff is worked in one color per round using an unusual combination of stitches to produce a spiraling fabric; and, the Twisted Garter Edge is a surprisingly easy to work edge. We’re a little biased; but we think you should try this class.
Students should bring:
- At least 3 sport-weight yarns; preferably one or two in a light color, others in medium or dark colors for contrast.
- Double point needles (dpn) of an appropriate size for the selected yarn. Straight needles (single points) will work for some samples, but all cuffs can be worked on dpn. Two circular needles or one long circular for magic loop can be used in place of dpn, if preferred. Bring a small selection of needles (in a range of sizes) as you will be sampling several cuffs.
- Just for an example, with sport weight yarn, I usually use a size 2 needle for a firm cuff. I might bring along 4-5 sport weight yarns and dpns and circular needles (16”, 24” and/or 30”) in sizes 1-4 (whatever I have on hand).
