#210 Mary Germain —Estonian Mittens from the Island of Kihnu Full day Thursday $100
Skill level: Intermediate experience level is recommended for this class. Students must have experience on double point needles (dpn) or working with circular needles on sock/mitten-sized knitting.
Workshop Description: Learn how to make a special mitten cuff and mitten based on traditional designs from the Estonian island of Kihnu in the Baltic Sea. Mary will share with you some of the techniques she learned while on a knitting trip to Estonia, including various braids, textures, and two-color work. Knitting a mini mitten will give students a chance to learn these techniques first-hand.
Students should bring: Three colors of sport-weight yarn (black, natural, and red are traditional Kihnu mitten colors) and a set of five size 2 double point needles (dpn) and one size 3 or 4 needle (used only for cast-on).
