#403 Mary Germain —Latvian Mittens a la Irma Full day Saturday $100
Skill level: Intermediate experience level is recommended for this class. Students must have experience on double point needles (dpn) or working with circular needles on sock/mitten-sized knitting.
Workshop Description: Mary’s Latvian mitten knitting mentor was Irma Mežaraups Ciganovich, who grew up in Zemgale, the coldest region of Latvia. Learn all of the techniques involved in knitting a beautiful pair of multi-colored mittens by knitting an ornament-size mitten (approx. 2 ½ x 4 ½") during the workshop. This class will include special tips for working a hem with a picot edge, inserting the thumb while working in color pattern, picking up the thumb (again, in color pattern) and shaping the slightly pointed thumb and mitten top.
Students should bring: 3 colors of sport-weight yarn (light and medium colors, not dark), a set of 5 size 2 double point needles (dpn), and 1 size 3 or 4 needle (used only for cast on). Two circular needles or one long circular for magic loop can be used if preferred.
