#220 Julie Benac – Carding for the Perfect Prep    Half day Thursday 9am-Noon Bldg 10 Center  $50

Workshop Description:  Learn how to prepare and blend fiber for all types of spinning and felting, using hand cards, manual, and electric drum carders. Students will learn basic fiber preparation for carding, the importance of TPI, and how to use hand cards to make rolags for the most basic wool spinning prep. An intro to drum carding will show how to select a drum carder, its safe use and operation, methods for blending fibers, blending colors, and using add-ins for art batts. We'll also discuss different ways to remove batts from the drum carder, the best ways to store your batts, and finally, provide resources to learn more about all aspects of drum carding.

Students should bring:  Handcards or drum carder, extra clean fiber for carding, if desired. There will be several handcards and two drum carders for students to use if they do not currently own these tools.

Material fee: $20 Fee covers class kit with various fibers to card in class, as well as a laminated resource guide to keep as reference
