Workshop Description:  Students will create a life-like loon entirely out of wool. This project is an excellent opportunity to learn needle felting, or to perfect the art of sculpting wool with a felting needle. The technique, also known as dry felting, uses a barbed needle and has many applications which we will discuss. We will start by creating the basic shape of the bird. We will then add color and detail including the loon’s characteristic iridescence, finishing it with garnet beads for the eyes. Lastly, we will create a lake of blue wool for it to swim in.
