#232 Kelly Brandt – Dorset Buttons in Silk: Dye your thread  Half day Thursday 1-4pm  Pavilion Center  $50

Workshop Description:  Before commercial buttons were widely available, In the English county of Dorset starting in the late 1700’s, shepherds cut rings from the horns of their Horned Dorset sheep to turn into fashionable buttons in the style called Crosswheel. Clever home makers fabricated intriguing thread wrapped buttons and earned extra money for the household. Now we have transformed these work-a-day accessories into fashionable buttons to match your garment. Dye silk threads and make a set of buttons for your project! While the dyed fiber dries, you will learn the Dorset button basics, then make a set of 4 to 6 buttons for your project.

Students should bring:  Your glasses if you wear them for close work. Water to drink. A yarn or an item to match to your buttons if you are working on a project with them.
