Workshop Description: Hemp, ramie, Bamboo, and Tencel™, are all important cellulose fibers for today’s spinners to understand. These include very old and very new cellulose fibers. We will prepare, dye, spin and ply all of them to fully understand their differences. Blends, and combination yarns will be taught so you will know how to spin the ultimate cellulose yarns for summer shawls, tops and scarves.
Students should bring: A good working wheel or a variety of spindles; lazy kate and 3 bobbins; a small hand towel. Scissors, hole punch for attaching sample yarns and fibers, and about a dozen sandwich baggies and 3X5 cards, pen/pencil. For the dyeing bring apron, rubber gloves, and a plastic tub. Also bring oil, screwdriver, and other tools for your wheel, in case they are needed.
