Workshop Description: Using Bombyx silk combed top, we will cover strategies to spin 2-ply yarns that are suitable for embroidery. These yarns will be thin and have a lot of twist. In the spinning, we will cover some special characteristics of silk and why it makes a good yarn/thread for embroidery. We will also cover some basic embroidery stitches, using an embroidery hoop and linen fabrics. Students will leave with a few small skeins of silk yarns, an embroidery hoop, and a few pieces of linen fabric, and a small collection of basic embroidery stitches for future projects. Advanced beginning to intermediate spinning, and beginning embroidery.
