533 Kris Jenkins--The Foundations of Core Spinning Half day Sunday 1-4pm Bldg 9 South $50
Skill level: All levels welcome
Workshop Description: The fundamentals of core spinning will introduce students to the basics of core spinning: how to choose the right core, what fibers to use, fiber prep, the different characteristics of core spun yarns and how they may be used in the world of fiber art. We will concentrate on hand work, treadle work and how to learn to gain control of your fiber while working with multiple movements of hands and feet. We will discuss tension, overspinning and fiber slippage as well.
Though all levels are welcome, students should be comfortable in basic spinning and have some level of control over their drafting.
Students should bring: A spinning wheel with a large orifice and 3 bobbins(an e-spinner is fine as well, though students should bring a battery pack as electrical is not always available.). Students may also bring a niddy noddy, though there will be a couple to share if you do not have your own.
Homework: None
Material Fee: $35 includes a 2oz. Batt, 3oz of combed top, and 2 oz. of fiber cloud. Core thread will be provided outside of the material fee for the students to use while in class.
Class Limit: 12
