Workshop Description: Flax is the classic fiber that becomes linen yarn. It'll easily become another joy for spinning after you learn new techniques to manage its particular characteristics. This class teaches you quick ways to dress distaffs in long, line flax, wet-spin line or roving, and scour finished yarns. Fibers are provided, bring a spinning wheel or spindles, and a “distaff”. Distaffs can be manufactured or easily improvised creations attached to your waist, your chair, your wheel, or free-standing.
Students should bring: A good working wheel, scotch brake or double drive recommended or a variety of spindles, Distaff – creative endeavors are encouraged, Small water cup for wetting fingers – plastic ok, Hand cards, A hand comb, Scissors, About a dozen sandwich baggies and 3X5 file cards, A hole-punch for attaching sample yarns and fibers to the worksheet, An apron and a towel, Lazy Kate and extra bobbins, Also bring oil, screwdriver, and other tools for your wheel, in case they are needed
